2014 J. Lohr Estates Falcon’s Perch Monterey County Pinot Noir

13.5% alc., pH 3.71, TA 0.64, RS .15 g/ 100 ml, $17. Sourced from vineyards in the Arroyo Seco (46%) and Santa Lucia Highlands (54%) appellations. 3 day cold soak, fermented in 12-ton lots in open-top tanks for 5 to 10 days with light pumpovers and daily punchdowns. Matured in stainless steel with small fraction aged in French oak barrels. · Moderately dark reddish purple color in the glass. Aromas of cassis, blackberry jam, fig and vanillin. Mid weight plus flavors of blackberry, black raspberry, candied black cherry, spice, black tea and plenty of vanilla. Soft in the mouth with tame tannins and some finish. Score: 87.
