This label is owned by the family behind Vinovation, Inc. headed by Clark Smith, which offers winemaking tools such as alcohol reduction, volatile acidity reduction, microoxygenation, tannin removal, juice concentration and more. Smith is a bit of a maverick in the wine business, believing in modern technology to produce specific outcomes in wines.

WineSmith is one of three lines of GrapeCraft Wines which include CheapSkate and PennyFarthing. Multiple winemakers are involved. A Wine Smith Pinot Noir, "Second Fiddle," was crafted from Fiddlestix Vineyard grapes in the 2005 vintage and is available on the website. The PennyFarthing North Coast Pinot Noir is a value-priced play.
