Calcareous Vineyard
This winery specializes in Rhone and Bordeaux varietals as well as Zinfandel. The vineyard is located four miles to the west of Paso Robles on 442 hilltop acres and extending for several miles towards the Pacific Ocean. The Pinot Noir is sourced from a cooler part of the vineyard in the York Mountain district. Established in 2000, the first Pinot Noir was produced in 2006. Jason Joyce became the winemaker in 2010, following Damian Grindley. His initial career was in the bio-tech industry. Seeking a break after five years, he took on a job as a cellar rat in a Central Coast winery. He then worked three years as the assistant winemaker at Calcareous, before becoming the winemaker. The wines are 100% estate grown. A second label, Twisted Sister, are value priced wines made from grapes sourced from other vineyards. The tasting room is open daily from 11:00 to 5:00 at 3430 Peachy Canyon Road in Paso Robles.
