Alexander Valley Vineyards
Maggie and Harry Wetzel bought a large part of a homestead built by Cyrus Alexander in 1962. The Wetzels were among the first to plant wine grapes in the area and built a small winery. Hank Wetzel, oldest son of Maggie and Harry, produced Alexander Valley Vineyard's first wine in 1975. The winery became known for Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Wetzel Family Estate now grows fourteen grape varieties. Hank Wetzel oversees the vineyard and winery operations, with Mark House managing the vineyards and Kevin Hall making the wines. Harry Wetzel IV is now an assistant winemaker. Production is 100,000 cases annually of 17 varietal wines and proprietary blends including an Estate Pinot Noir from Alexander Valley. |
