When the classic rock band Foghat played at the California Mid State Fair in Paso Robles in 2007, Talley Vineyards winemaker Steve Rasmussen was there along with his assistant winemaker Jose Cuevas. The concert made him think that the name Foghat would be a great name for a wine brand. Rasmussen found the Foghat manager Roger Earl receptive to the idea and Foghat Cellars was born.

Steve Rasmussen currently owns Slo-Bottling, has been the winemaker for Sierra Madre Vineyards as well as Foghat Cellars and consults with several wineries.

The first wine was bottled in 2008, and in 2010 a Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were produced. The wines are in retail distribution in California and New York and available online through select retailers.
