A Napa Valley-based winery that released the first vintage of Metaphora Cabernet Sauvignon in 2005 as a collaboration with winemakers Chuck and Joseph Wagner of Caymus Vineyards and continues today under the direction of winemaker Mark Herold. The owner, Ravi Mehta, spent much of his professional career as a successful attorney, representing numerous Fortune 50 and 500 companies.
Metaphora Rosé is the only domestic Rosé on the wine list at the French Laundry.
The winery's image that adorns the label is the classic circular pose of The Three Graces, which symbolizes the three aspects of the gift: giving, accepting and returning.
The inaugural Pinot Noir release was from the 2009 vintage ($75). Grapes were sourced from Atlas Peak Vineyards high above the Napa Valley floor and Truchard Vineyards in Carneros.
