Founded by Kate Jones, the name derives from the ocean that is her "Oasis," and "Blue" from the regions where her grapes grow. The first grapes were sourced from Monterey Bay, also known as the "Blue Canyon".
The owner grew up on a farm on the East Coast and developed an interest in wine when living on Long Island for three years. She moved to the Napa Valley to pursue a career in wine.
5% of all pretax profits are donated to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation ocean conservancy.
