The Wagner family has carried on a winemaking legacy for three generations. Charles F. Wagner and Lorna Belle Glos Wagner, along with their son Chuck, established Caymus Vineyards in 1972. By 1988, Chuck began planting vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands. Mer Soleil Chardonnay became the focus from this site and has been run by Chuck's eldest son, Charlie F. Wagner II, since 2001. In 2006, Chuck started a second Chardonnay label, Silver, which was an unoaked Chardonnay fermented in cement vats and stainless steel tanks. A Santa Barbara County Chardonnay was later added.
The 2016 vintage brought a Mer Soleil Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir.
