D.R. Stephens Estate

Proprietors are Don Stephens, a lawyer and founder of D.R. Stephens & Company, a real estate and private equity business and Trish Stephens, an interior designer and gourmet cook. In 1996, they found a 35-acre property on Howell Mountain Road in St. Helena and built their home above the vineyard and indigenous olive trees. They planted the 9-acre Moose Valley Vineyard in 1996 and released their first Cabernet Sauvignon from the vineyard in 1999.

In 2008, Don's winemaker son, Justin, joined with Don to form Hunnicutt Wine Company to produce wine and custom crush for other small brands.

The winemaker for D.R. Stephens Estate since 2010 is Michael Hirby. He produces Cabernet Sauvignon from Moose Valley Vineyard, Chardonnay from Star Vineyard, Pinot Noir from Silver Eagle Vineyard and Sauvignon Blanc from Moose Valley Vineyard.
