Surh Luchtel Cellars Owners and winemakers Don Surh and Gary Luchtel have been producing wine under this label since 1999, but their first Pinot Noir was released in 2003. Most of their production has been Bordeaux varietals. Don was pouring a 2005 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir which was a bit subdued (Don said it drank much better in barrel and hadn’t recovered), and an excellent 2005 Garys’ Vineyard Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir.
Surh Luchtel Cellars is located in Napa. The wines are sold through a mailing list.

winery. It is an impressive offering with plenty of dark aromatic Pinot fruits, appealingly spiced, and
nicely balanced with pleasing acidity and gossamer tannins.

2004 Surh Luchtel Garys’ Vineyard Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
Lovely aged aromas of baking spices, apples, seasoned oak and sandalwood.
Discreetly concentrated cherry core with a hint of root beer flavor. The tannins
have melted away. Best wine in the lineup.
