Marimar Torres came to live in California in 1975 and first selling the family wines in Europe and then North America. After two years of searching, she acquired the land in the Green Valley sub-appellation of the Russian River Valley and began planting the Don Miguel Vineyard in 1986. The 81-acre site is planted to 30 acres of Chardonnay and 30 acres of Pinot Noir. She later planted 20 acres of a 180-acre property to Pinot Noir between Freestone and Occidental in the Sonoma Coast appellation. All vineyards are planted in a high-density European style and are certified organic and biodynamic.
The Pinot Noir lineup includes a Don Miguel Vineyard, a Dona Margarita Vineyard, Cristina (a 20 barrel select reserve) and two block bottlings. The Marimar Estate wines, which include Chardonnay, are 100% estate-grown and bottled.
The winery is built in the style of a Catalan farmhouse reflecting the home in which Marimar Torres grew up in. The tasting room at 11400 Graton Road in Sebastopol is open seven days a week with several tasting options available including tapas and a wine pairing experience. Tours are available by appointment (707-823-4365)
