12.0% alc., $9 (1.5 liter). · Dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Highly aromatic with scents of blackberry jam on toast and oak-driven coffee and vanilla. Silky smooth on the palate with mid weight flavors of blackberry and black current annotated with vanilla and cedary oak. Very slightly sweet on the finish. Definitely hearty but not muscular or brawny. The wine’s wide appeal is understandable, especially at this value price. A solid pizza or BBQ wine. Score: 85. Reviewed February 22, 2014
