2013 Joseph Jewell Appian Way Vineyards Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 14.22% alc., pH 3.51, TA 0.61, 92 cases, $46. Release April 1, 2016. Vineyard is located just outside the town of Forestville. Farmed as an organic apple orchard until 2001, the 2-acre vineyard is now planted to Pinot Noir clones 115, 777 and Pommard in Goldridge soil. Yields 3.40 tons per acre. Unfined and unfiltered. · Moderately dark reddish purple color in the glass. The nose is steeped in purple berry, hazelnut and vanilla aromas. Soft on entry and exit, with mid weight plus flavors of spiced plum, ollaliberry and blueberry-pomegranate. Super ripe in profile with even a hint of prune peeking out. Nicely composed with a deft touch of oak, merged tannins, and a satiny texture. A slight sense of warmth shows up on the finish. Unchanged when tasted the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle. Score: 89. Reviewed March 12, 2016
