2012 Roadhouse Winery Martini Clone Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

14.9% alc., pH 3.63, TA 0.54, 250 cases, $49. Sourced from Vine Hill Road Vineyard planted to Martini clone in 1989. 100% de-stemmed, 5-day cold soak, inoculated fermentations, aged 20 months in 100% French oak barrels, 20% of which were new. Unfined and unfiltered. · Light red cherry color in the glass. The nose reluctantly opens slowly over time to reveal demure aromas of ripe cherry pie glaze, rose petal and oak. The cherry fruit core seems a bit roasted and is dominated by oak-driven flavors of coffee nibs, dark chocolate, cola and spice. The fine-grain tannins offer textural interest and the finish is long and plush with black cherry goodness. Score: 89. Reviewed February 8, 2015 WINERY » ARTICLE »

2005 Dovetail Vine Hill Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

13.3% alc., 42 cases, $45. A blend of Dijon clones 9 (?) and 115. Aged 10 months in Hungarian barrels. · Similar to the wine above but more expressive aromas. The red cherry and berry fruits are framed by noticeable but not intrusive oak. A lightweight, feminine wine that is a little thin on the backend. Reviewed September 10, 2007 WINERY » ARTICLE »

320 cases, $32. Theodore R Elliott is the man behind Elliott Family Cellars, a very small producer of Pinot Noir in Santa Rosa. The two Pinot Noirs he produces are cuvees from two vineyards - Vine Hill and Hallberg (formerly Goldridge). The wine is composed of three clones - 115, Pommard 5, and 777. Aging is in 36% new oak. The wines are available online on the website at www.elliottfamilycellars.com. · A nicely perfumed Pinot with cherries, rhubarb, and Asian spice. Elegant in style with plenty of appealing Pinot fruits and herbs enhanced with deft wood and spice. A welcome food partner as well. Reviewed January 22, 2007 WINERY » ARTICLE »
