Vineyard is located at 500 feet elevation above the middle fork of the Eel River. First open release from this vineyard. Martini clone planted in 1991. Yield averaged 1.99 tons per acre. Harvest Brix 23.2º. Aged 11 months in French oak barrels, 33% new. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. · Moderately light reddish purple color in the glass. Both earthy and fruity in character, with aromas and flavors of black raspberry and blackberry fruits, spice, mushroom and mulch. 2013 Briceland Vineyards Alderpoint Vineyard Humboldt County Pinot Noir 13.3% alc., 147 cases, $33. Vineyard is the most easterly of the southern Humboldt vineyards Briceland works with and although slightly warmer, the warmth is moderated by the vineyard’s proximity to the Main Fork of the Eel River. Planted in 1991 in consultation with Briceland’s founding winemaker Joe Collins and currently tended by viticultural expert Rey Sanchez. · Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Intoxicating aromas of black cherry, sous-bois and a floral note. Delicious mid weight plus flavors of black cherry and red currant. 2013 Joseph Jewell Alderpoint Vineyard Humboldt County Pinot Noir 14.5% alc., pH 3.51, TA 0.56, 100 cases, $34. Martini clone. Yield 2.01 tons per acre. 100% de-stemmed. Aged 10 months in French oak barrels, 25% new. Unfined and unfiltered. · Moderately light reddish purple color in the glass. Both fruity and savory aromas announce the wine, including scents of cherry, raspberry, spice, underbrush, oak and herbs. A polished wine on the palate, with mid weight flavors of cherry, raspberry and boysenberry, framed by matching tannins and a subtle top note of oak. The finish is modest but satisfying. Score: 90.
