2011 White Rose Estate “The Neo-Classical Objective” Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

13.0% alc., 416 cases, $80. Sourced from White Rose Vineyard (35%), Vista Hills Vineyard (31%), (Dundee Hills AVA, planted in 1999-2001 with clones 115 and 777), and Murto Vineyard (34%, Dundee Hills AVA, planted 1988-2005, Pommard, 2A and 115). 100% whole cluster fermentation. Skin contact 23-25 days. Basked pressed with wooden ratchet press. Aged 16 months in 9% new French oak. · Moderately light reddish purple color in the glass. Highly perfumed with enticing aromas of cherry, wilted rose, exotic spices and the faintest oak. Bright and juicy with light to mid weight flavors of well-spiced black cherry backed by modestly astringent tannins and lively acidity. Very likable with a slight earthy bent to the flavors. 2010 Winderlea Murto Vineyard Dundee Hills Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

13.0% alc., $48. Located to the west of Winderlea Vineyard. Owned and farmed by Mike and Robin Murto. Planted in 1978 on a south-facing parcel at 400 to 700 feet elevation. Clones are Wädenswil, Pommard and 115. · Medium purple color in the glass. The nose is quite alluring with the scent of boysenberry jam. Deft balance between richness of black berry and plum fruit flavors, and acidity and tannins. Features the darkest fruit profile in the 2010 lineup. 2010 Ayoub Murto Vineyard Dundee Hills Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

13.1% alc., $49. · Moderate reddish-purple color in the glass. The nose starts out with lovely aromas of cherries and balsam, then evolves over time to reveal very ripe fruit aromas including raisin and becomes somewhat pungent. The light weight core of darker cherries and berries has substantial structural bones and an appealing lift of acidity on the lengthy finish. Much better the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle showing resolution of the pungency, more intense fruit expression and becoming overall more enjoyable. Good. 2008 Belle Pente Murto Vineyard Dundee Hills Oregon Pinot Noir

13.4% alc., $30. Robin and Mike Murto’s vineyard was established in 1978. Indigenous yeast fermentations, aged 18 months in French oak barrels. No fining or filtration. · Moderately deep garnet color in the glass. Aromas of fresh picked red berries with a subtle green stem note. Slightly sweet dark red fruits are lighter weighted and somewhat buried in muscular tannins. Much better two days later from a previously opened and re-corked bottle displaying more vivid fruit and much less aggressive tannin. A good cellar candidate. Very good. 2007 Daedalus Cellars Willamette Valley Pinot Gris

13.6% alc., screw cap. Tall Alsatian bottle. From four vineyards (Carabella, Croft, Mahona and Murto) cropped to 2 tons per acre. Fermented with five different yeasts in 50% stainless steel and 50% neutral oak. · Rather intense aromas of pear, baking spices and almonds. 2007 Daedalus Cellars Labyrinth Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

13.0% alc., 620 cases, $45. This wine is a cuvée of some of the best barrels in the cellar in any given vintage. Primarily Pommard clone with some Dijon 114 and Wädenswil clones from old-vine fruit sourced from Seven Springs, Maresh and Murto vineyards and younger fruit from Carabella Vineyard. Cold soaked for 7 to 32 days, 15% whole cluster fermentation, processed entirely by gravity, total skin contact 17 to 42 days, aged 14 months in 28% new French oak, unfined and unfiltered. · Aromas of toasty oak, hay, earth and barnyard dominate the demure dark fruits. The wine has a tasty core of black cherries and black raspberries with an underlying woodiness and a touch of citric peel on the persistent finish. The tannins are reigned in nicely. 2005 Belle Pente Murto Vineyard Dundee Hills Pinot Noir

12.9% alc., 200 cases, $35. Robin and Mike Murto established their vineyard in 1978. Yields for 2005 were .56 tons per acre. 10th consecutive vintage from this vineyard. This wine spends 18 months in barrel. · Huge, and I mean huge black cherry aromas that are intoxicating. Darker fruits on the palate with a nice touch of earthiness and oak. Very smooth in texture.
