2012 POE Manchester Ridge Vineyard Mendocino Pinot Noir

13.8% alc., $48. 15% whole cluster. · Moderately dark reddish purple color in the glass. Very exotic and appealing nose with expressive aromas of dark berry preserves, spice, potpourri and redwood forest. Highly pleasurable on the palate with waves of perfectly ripened, juicy cherry, berry and black plum fruits. Soft in the mouth, with suede tannins and fresh acidity. The wine finishes with a spicy flourish, although not dramatically long. Spectacular the following day from a previous opened and re-corked bottle with highbrow aromatics and flavor to spare. 2009 La Follette Manchester Ridge Vineyard Mendocino Ridge Pinot Noir

14.7% alc., pH 3.74, TA 0.59, 494 cases, $49.99. This vineyard is located at 2,000 foot elevation overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The vines are rooted in decomposed sandstone. The relatively cool summer allows the fruit a long hang time. Clones 777, 115 and 114. 45% whole cluster. Bottled unfiltered. · Moderate reddish-purple color in the glass. Exotic perfume of purple rose petals, mushrooms, musk, frambiose and subtle oak. Hard to take your nose away from the glass. Delicious medium-weighted core of black raspberry and black cherry fruit clings to all reaches of the mouth, and persists with a vengeance on the aromatic finish. There are complimentary notes of cola and oak-driven mocha that add interest. Very satiny on the palate. I continue to be impressed by wines from this vineyard. Flat out beautiful. 2009 Auteur Manchester Ridge Mendocino Ridge Pinot Noir

14.2% alc., 182 cases, $50. Clones 115 and 777 co-fermented. Yield about 2 tons per acre. 20% whole cluster. Aged 16 months in 50% new French oak barrels. · Moderately deep reddish-purple color in the glass. Demure, but seductive perfume of fresh black raspberries, black cherries, spice and vanilla wafers. Perfectly composed and seamless with delicious flavors of berries and bright cherries accented by notes of cola, baking spices and mocha, wrapped in silky tannins. Plenty of vim and vigor with impressive persistence on the long finish. Still great the next day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle predicting a long life ahead. 2009 Olson Ogden Manchester Ridge Vineyard Mendocino Pinot Noir

14.2% alc., pH 3.53, TA 0.57, 148 cases, $55. This vineyard is located in the Mendocino Ridge AVA 2000 feet above the Anderson Valley. Clones 114, 115 and 777. Aged 17 months in 50% new French oak barrels. · Moderately light reddish-purple color in the glass. Shy aromas of red cherries and berries with a hint of balsam and herb garden. Flavors of luscious pie cherries accented by notes of exotic tea, cola, cassis sandalwood and spice. Layers of interest with seductively soft tannins and incredible length on the exit. 2008 Russian River Vineyards Limited Left Edge Selection Manchester Ridge Vineyard Mendocino Ridge Chardonnay

14.1% alc., $34. Wente and Dijon clones. Aged 10 months surlees in 50% new and 50% neutral oak barrels. · Pale golden yellow color in the glass. Aromas of lemon zest, white peach and butter. Plenty of interest on the palate with flavors of pears, tangerines, lemons, roasted nuts and creme brulee. Appealing richness with bright acidity leading to a citrus-laden refreshing finish. 2007 Auteur Manchester Ridge Vineyard Mendocino Ridge Pinot Noir

14.1% alc., $35. · Alluring aromas of berry compote, pine sap, dried rose petals and minerals. Delicious berry fruit especially raspberry, with a sidecar of Moroccan spice, earthiness and fungiform flavor. There are ripe, grainy tannins and a subtle citrus tang on the finish. 2007 B. Kosuge Wines Manchester Ridge Vineyard Mendocino Ridge Pinot Noir

14.5% alc., 300 cases, $38. · Demure but intoxicating perfume of dark berry jam, oak spice and floral bouquet. Lovely blackberry and raspberry fruit that is discreetly concentrated and clothed in silky, supple tannins. Great purity of fruit with an interesting undertone of forest floor, wood pile and mushrooms. The lingering finish keeps bringing you back. This beauty has the whole package. 14.1% alc., $54. · Deep reddish-purple color in the glass. Charming perfume of black cherries, plums, grapes and exotic flowers adding notes of mocha and roasted nuts over time in the glass. Darkly fruited with heaps of black cherry and plum flavors and an underpinning of savory herbs and oak. Juicy and vibrant with a polished tug of acid on the finish. 14.5% alc., 326 cases, $35. Winemaker is Evelyn White. · Nuanced perfume revealing black cherries, melon, pomegranate, herbs, green tomato and oak. Very pleasing cherry and berry attack with some mocha in the background. A silky mouthfeel and impeccable balance make this wine very easy to drink. Very good. 2006 B. Kosuge Wines Manchester Ridge Mendocino Pinot Noir

14.5% alc., 300 cases, $40. From a vineyard located in the boonies (many miles toward the coast from Boonville) at 2,000 feet. The location and climate are more akin to the Sonoma Coast than Anderson Valley. Byron Kosuge is a Pinot Noir and Syrah specialist who formerly was the head winemaker at Saintsbury. · A potpourri of scents including brambly cherries, candied apples, exotic woods, vanillin and winter spices. Mouth filling dusty red cherries that are nicely spiced with echoes of oak. Velvety texture with integrated tannins and a good acid cut. A complete wine with excellent balance and length. 2006 Tandem Manchester Ridge Vineyard Mendocino Ridge Chardonnay

14.9% alc., $54. · Golden yellow color in glass. Aromas of exotic flowers, lemon, peach, pear, vanilla and seasoned oak. The flavors echo the nose with added notes of oak spice and brown butter. Clean, crisp and supple in the mouth with perfect integration of oak and alcohol and a lasting aromatic finish.
