2013 MacRostie Cummings Vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

14.6% alc., 184 cases, $56. This vineyard is owned by Bruce Cummings and is located in the Santa Rosa Plains neighborhood of the Russian River Valley. Charlie Chenoweth manages the vineyard. Clones 667, 777 and 115. 100% de-stemmed, inoculated yeast, combination of pumpovers and punchdowns, aged 12 months in French oak barrels, 25% new. · Moderately light cherry red color in the glass. Vivid Bing cherry aromas leads to a light to mid weight styled wine fueled by black cherry, black raspberry, boysenberry and color flavors. 2011 Ten Acre Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

14.7% alc., pH 3.60, TA 0.62, 350 cases, $38. Select barrels intended to capture the essence of the Russian River Valley AVA. Sources include Cummings, Jenkins, Stephens and LaCzar vineyards. Various clones, aged in 33% new, 33% 1-year-old, and 33% 2-year-old French oak barrels. Some unspecified whole cluster fermentation. · Medium reddish-purple color and unfiltered appearance in the glass. Scents of black cherries, tobacco oak, forest floor and spice. 2011 Ten Acre Cummings Vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

14.3% alc., pH 3.63, TA 0.60, 200 cases, $55. Planted in 2001 by Charlie Chenoweth on a flat land near Santa Rosa. A relatively warm site with sand and clay soils. · Dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Very fruit nose featuring penetrating aromas of boysenberry and plum underpinned with subtle accents of rose petal, sap and sawdust. The core of darker berry and plum fruit is appealing but doesn’t explode on entry like the Jenkins bottling. A hint of grilled mushrooms, cola and oak add interest. 2010 Jeff Gordon Cellars Leo Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

14.5% alc., pH 3.60, TA 0.62, 124 cases, $56. Jeff and Ingrid Gordon dedicate this wine to their son Leo Benjamin, born in August of 2010. Jeff is a four-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion and long time wine enthusiast. Sourced from Cummings Vineyard just west of Santa Rosa and Archer Vineyard just west of Windsor. Aged 9 months in 30% new and 70% 2- and 3-year-old French oak barrels. Unfined and unfiltered. · Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. The inviting aromatics feature aromas of blueberry, red plum, ripe strawberry, pine sap, spice and oak vanillin. Quite flavorful and easy to drink with a middleweight core of strawberry, cherry and blueberry fruits backed by juicy acidity and buffered by fine-grain tannins. Score: 89.
