Pietra Santa

Pietra Santa means "sacred stone" in Italian. The name was chosen in honor of the estate's unique soils rich in limestone and shale. this family owned and operated winery produces both artisanal wines and olive oils. The site was originally planted to wine grapes in the 1850s by Frenchman Theophile Vache who chose the location because of the maritime climate and unique soils. Located 25 miles east of Monterey Bay, the estate vineyards benefit from cool coastal breezes. The estate sits on the San Andreas Fault.

Established in 1989, the property was purchased by Cort, Phyllis and John Blackburn in 2005. The winemaker is Alessio Carli. Pietra Santa wines are mainly single varietal, and estate-based. The Pinot Noir is sourced from a neighboring vineyard in the Cienega Valley and is priced below $20.

The winery's tasting room in Hollister is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Call for group reservations or tours. Pietra Santa wines are sold online.
