Trefethen is one of Napa Valley's few remaining family wine estates. It is located in the Oak Knoll District of the Napa Valley. The Main Ranch Vineyard, which is planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Viognier. The winery's Pinot Noir is sourced from the Main Ranch Vineyard.
The original winery, acquired by John and Janet Trefethen in 1968, was restored and today is on the National Register of Historic Places as the only 19th-century, wooden, gravity-flow winery surviving in Napa County.
The tasting room is open daily 10:00 to 4:30. Tours by appointment (866-895-7696).
