Despite the label, a woman, Robin Bogue, owns and operates this boutique winery using long-term contracts from vineyards in Santa Barbara County and Santa Maria Valley to create premium varietals. She is assisted in the day to day business by her father, Bill, who is also a viticulturist.
The first Pinot Noir was produced in 2005. There are two offered in the 2007 vintage: Pinot Noir "Persuasive," and Gary RAnch Vineyard "Influential." Prices are modest and available online.
2007 William James Cellars Garey Ranch Vineyard Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir
14.5% alc.. · Aromas of barnyard and oak carry over on the palate. The fruit is very bashful and overwhelmed by oak which dominates the acidic finish. The oak may integrate over time but this wine will always be oaky. Unsatisfactory. Reviewed April 8, 2010 ARTICLE »
