This iconic Napa Valley winery offers the marriage of art, architecture and wine. Proprietors Jan and Mitsuko Schrem believe that wine is an art form that deserves its place among the other treasures of the art world. Jan Schrem built a publishing empire and this gave him the financial means to indulge his love of wine. He enlisted Andre Tchelistcheff to create a unique wine estate. He started by buying a 50-acre vineyard in Calistoga in 1983 and later added more than 400 acres in the Napa Valley. The winery surrounded by a sculpture garden is an architectural marvel that was completed in 1987.
The Pinot Noir program began modestly in 1996 and today the Mitsuko's Vineyard in Carneros planted to Pinot Noir totals over 20 acres. Pinot Noir is also sourced from Graveyard Hill Vineyard in Carneros. Some redesign of the fermentation cellar was required and the Pinot Noir program has been taken very seriously. The winemaker is Shawn Richardson.
The visitor's center at 1060 Dunaweal Lane in Calistoga is open from 10:30 to 5:00 daily with guided tours of the grounds and winery available.
