Bill and Gill Grant founded Shaky Bridge in 1973 and planted vines on the Home Block. There were few others making wine in Central Otago at the time, and Shaky Bridge was the first commercial winery from the Alexandra sub-region of Central Otago. The original plantings of Pinot Noir and Gewürztraminer are still used and Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris have been added to production. Vineyard holdings have been expanded, and the winery now manages and sources fruit from over 100 acres of estate managed vineyards in the Alexandra basin.
Shaky Bridge is an icon in the town of Alexandra, a region rounded by early pioneers of New Zealand.
2003 Shaky Bridge Central Otago New Zealand Pinot Noir
14.0% alc., $30. Screw cap. · A delicate nose with a touch of strawberry and alcohol. More oak than fruit on the woody finish. Reviewed April 16, 2006
