A family owned vineyard and winery dedicated to the production of estate grown Pinot Noir located on the western edge of the Chehalem Mountains AVA. Proprietors Joe and Vicki Stark acquired an ideal site for Pinot Noir two miles from their rental home, made possible by Joe's successful DMH, Inc. cabinetry business.
The Winemaker is the former Assistant Winemaker at Beaux Freres, Steve Goff. The Wine Director is Mark Bosko, who was the Wine Director at Press Wine Barr in Dundee and the previous Tasting Room Manager at Domaine Drouhin.
The first Pinot Noirs were released from the 2008 vintage from their initial 23 acre estate vineyard.
A tasting room has a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of Bald Peak to the north and the Coast Range to the west. Sunset Magazine named Colene Clemens a 2011 Western Wine Awards Finalist for "Most Beautiful" Winery Tasting Room of the Year. The tasting room is open Wednesday through Sunday (May-October) and Friday through Sunday (November through April) at 22501 NE Dopp Rd. in Newberg.

2011 Colene Clemens Vineyards Margo Estate Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir

Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Aromas of cherry, rose petal and sandalwood emerge slowly over
time in the glass. Very similar to Adriane but with darker fruit flavors of black cherry and sassafras with a
pleasant oak sheen. Light to medium weight with balanced tannins and a very dry finish. Seems a bit tight and
should benefit from a year in the cellar.
Score: 89.

2011 Colene Clemens Vineyards Adriane Estate Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir

Moderate reddish purple hue in the glass. Rather shy aromas of oak-shaded black cherries. Mid weight core
of red and black cherries and cranberries with tobacco-laced oak in the background. Well-managed tannins and some finishing length, becoming better over time in the glass. When tasted the following day from a
previously opened and re-corked bottle, the oak-kissed red cherry theme persisted. Could use a little more
time in bottle.
Score: 90.

2011 Colene Clemens Vineyards Victoria Estate Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir

Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Expressive aromas of dark cherry liquor, black raspberry jam,
spice and briar. The most polished and rich wine of the three 2011 Pinot Noirs, featuring a flavorful core of
dark cherry accented with spicy oak. Very harmonious, but not fully forthcoming and will need a year or two in
the cellar.
Score: 91.

2010 Colene Clemens Vineyards Estate Reserve Chehalem Mountains Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

Moderately light reddish-purple
color in the glass. Very enticing nose offering hi-tone aromas of berries on the
vine, oak spice and BBQ smoke. Light in weight and soft on the palate with a
core of exotically spiced dark berries and grilled plums underlain with a smoky,
peppery note, backed by ripe tannins. An interesting wine that is different from
the Oregon norm. Even better the following day from a previously opened and
re-corked bottle show plenty of intriguing spice on the nose and palate.

2008 Colene Clemens Vineyards Estate Reserve Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir
13.5% alc., 440 cases,
$36. Inaugural release (along with an Estate bottling) from a 23-acre estate vineyard planted in 2006 in the
Ribbon Ridge AVA. The winemaker is Steve Goof, who spent several years as an assistant to Beaux Frères
winemaker Mike Etzel. Clones are 115, 667, 777 and Pommard. Aged in 50% new French oak barrels.

The
nose is dominated by oak with very little fruit to the front. Discreetly intense flavors of black cherries with
prominent accents of grilled mushrooms and toasted oak. The tannins are restrained, and the texture is satiny,
but there is too much oak on board now. The oak may integrate over time, but I suspect this will always be an
oaky wine. Decent.
