A boutique winery making small lots of hand crafted wine with an emphasis on single vineyard Pinot Noir. Owner and winemaker, Dave Ball, is a successful healthcare lawyer in South Carolina who directs his winery operations from the East Coast, traveling frequently to San Francisco to oversee vinification. Chris Nelson is the Pinot Noir winemaker. His resume includes stints at Lynmar Winery in the Russian River Valley, Dry River Winery in Martinborough, New Zealand, and Araujo Wines in Calistoga.
In 2008, vineyard-designated Pinot Noirs were released from La Encantada Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills, Lone Oak Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands, and Split Rock Vineyard in the Sonoma Coast. Total Pinot Noir production for 2008 was 100 cases.

2009 Calicaro Split Rock Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
14.6% alc., $54. Crafted under the direction of Dave Ball. · Moderately deep garnet color in the glass. The nose is aromatically shy with only faint whiffs of dark fruit and oak. 2008 Calicaro Split Rock Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
14.8% alc., pH 3.66, TA 0.63, 12 cases, $47. Picked at 27.9ยบ Brix. Aged 11 months in 50% new French oak barrels. · Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Opens with appealing aroma of plum reduction sauce, fading into a muddled aroma of leaf and green garden with absent fruit. Moderately rich and creamy with a very ripe and sweet dark fruit profile with notes of raisin and green oak in the background.
