Dr. Bailey Carrodus planted vines in the Yarra Valley of Australia in 1969. He was a botanist with a degree in winemaking and his research indicated this this site was ideal to grow Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and even some Pinot Noir. Over time, he expanded the vineyard to 70 acres to include Portuguese varieties, Merlot, Carmenere and Petit Verdot. He farmed his vineyards and made his wines with minimal intervention. The wines were distinctive and age worthy.
Carrodus passed away in 2008, leaving the winery in winemaker Paul Bridgeman's hands. Production is 4,000 cases, 100% of which is estate grown. The Pinot Noirs are a bit quirky and unique, but definitely reflective of the terroir. Importer is Old Bridge Cellars, Napa, CA.
