Elk Run Vineyards is located in the hills of Frederick County. Fred and Carol Wilson and Neill Bassford, and associates, established Elk Run Vineyards in 1979, bonded the winery in 1983, and have made it a noted wine producer on the East Coast. In 1980, the first all-vinifera vineyard was planted in Maryland, including Pinot Noir, and today, Elk Run is the only grower of Pinot Noir in Maryland. The single Pinot Noir is produced from the estate Cold Friday Vineyard. A total of 24 acres of vines are tended. The winemaker is Fred Wilson, a disciple of Dr. Konstantine Frank, who has won numerous awards for his wines.
