A new winery with the 2009 vintage launched as a partnership between viticulturist Glenn Alexander and winemaker John Raytek (Ceritas, Pfendler). Cartha means "those who do the work."

The 2009 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (459 cases) comes from vineyard in the Petaluma Gap (Pfendler, Pullis, Penngrove). Primarily composed of heirloom clones such as Calera and Swan with lesser amounts of Pommard and Dijon 828.

The wine is distributed through fine retail stores.

2010 Cartha Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir Rosé

12.9% alc., $15. · Light pink coral color in the glass. Shy nose offering demure aromas of blueberries, pear and wet rock. Restrained and soft in the mouth with subtle flavors of red berries, peaches and herbs with a lively kick of acidity in the background. A pleasant, but simple wine. Good. 2009 Cartha Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

13.5% alc., $26. · Deep reddish-purple color in the glass. Nicely scented with aromas of dark stone fruits and ollaliberries, spice and a complimentary touch of oak. Richly endowed with a striking dark fruit core accented with flavors of anise, tea and smoky oak all robed in modest tannins.
