The site is located in the low hills between Carlton and Yamhill on a ridge shared with other well-known premium vineyards. The dry-farmed vineyard is planted to Pommard and Wädenswil clones. Soils are Willakenzie, ancient marine sediments with excellent drainage. The vineyard is farmed in compliance with LIVE. Yields are limited to about 2 tons per acre.

The goal is wines that are good companions with food that reflect the unique terroir. Production is 200-300 cases annually. The wines are sold through a link on the website to Northwest Wines to You.

2009 CAW Yamhill-Carlton District Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

14.9% alc., $36. · Medium reddish-purple color in the glass. This wine reflects the relatively warm 2009 vintage in the Willamette Valley. Aromas of black cherries, tomato and beet. Flavors of black plum, black cherry and raisin. Plenty of concentration with balanced tannins, but lacks the verve that Oregon Pinot Noir is known for. Too ripe for my taste. Decent. Second vintage of this wine. 100% de-stemmed, 5 day cold soak, aged in 25% new French oak barrels. · Moderate reddish-purple robe in the glass. Welcoming aromas of black cherries, strawberry jam, violets and sweet oak. Medium-bodied flavors of nicely spiced cherries, raspberries and plums with a floral note persisting on the finish. Very smooth and charming in the mouth with well proportioned tannins and overall impeccable balance. Very good. Reviewed November 2, 2011 ARTICLE »
