The Trombetta family has lived in West Sonoma County for generations. Rickey Trombetta Stancliff and husband Roger Stancliff, along with their daughter Erica and son Michael have launched the Trombetta Family Wines label with a Pinot Noir from Gap's Crown Vineyard to be released in 2011 from the 2010 vintage. Consulting winemakers are Paul Hobbs and Julian Gonzalez. Erica has earned her degree in enology from California State University at Fresno and completed winery internships.
The wine is sold through a mailing list with some restaurant distribution.

and 115. Harvest Brix 25.0º. Native yeast fermentation, extended cold soak and maceration, native malolactic
fermentation in barrels, aged 9 months in 35% new French oak barrels. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Dark
garnet color in the glass. Aromas of tilled soil, blackberry, blueberry, and smoky oak. Very richly fruited and lush
on the palate with a viscous mouthfeel. Dark fruits are featured with matched tannins and uplifting acidity.
Score: 92.

14.2% alc., 500 cases, $45. Sourced from
Petersen Vineyard in the Petaluma Gap region. Clones 115 and 667 planted in 1996. Harvest Brix 26.5º.
Native yeast fermentation and native MLF, extended cold soak and maceration, aged 9 months in 100%
French oak barrels, 50% new. Unfined and unfiltered.

Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Admirable
transparency in the mid weight wine with fresh, up front red fruits underpinned by silky tannins. There are
appealing notes of spice and, herbs and oak vanillin.
Score: 90-91.

Moderately dark reddish purple color in the glass. Very ripe fruited with
aromas and flavors of sweet black cherry, black raspberry and pomegranate framed by imposing, sinewy
tannins. Highly extracted and sappy with a compliment of oak and fruit-dominated length.
Score: 88-89.

2011 Trombetta Family Wines Gap’s Crown Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
14.2% alc., 530 cases, $58. Clones are Swan, 777 and “828” planted
between 2002 and 2005. Yield 2.3 tons per acre. Harvest Brix 25º. Fermented
with native yeast, extended cold soak and maceration, native MLF in barrel,
aged 9 months in 50% new French oak barrels. Unfined and unfiltered.

Moderately dark reddish purple color in the glass. Aromas of black cherry,
blackberry and toasty oak are slow to arrive on the nose, but when they do, the
experience draws you into the glass. Mid to full-bodied essence of dark Bing
cherries with cola and oak in the background and a touch of citrus on the finish.
A cohesive wine with plenty of sappy fruit balanced by integrated tannins. I
liked the wine more as it unfolded in the glass over time. Very similar in
character to a moderately bold Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. Runner up at recent Pigs and Pinot Sommelier
Smackdown in Healdsburg.
Score: 90.

$58. Petaluma Gap vineyard location. Clones 777, Swan and 828. Native yeast fermentations, extended
maceration, aged 9 months in 50% new and 50% 1-year-old French oak barrels. Unfined and unfiltered.

Dark
plum color in the glass. Super ripe fruit profile. Aromas of crushed black grapes, cassis, blackberries, tea leaf
and soy sauce. Full-bodied flavors of sweet black raspberry and black currant fruit, assuming a dried-out
character over time in the glass with notes of raisin, hay, grass and tea leaf showing up. Stops just short of
syrupy. Some fine-grain tannins and a lingering fruit-driven finish. Pushes the ripeness envelope too far for my
taste, but well-made in its style. Decent.
