Located in the coastal hills west of McMinnville, Oregon, Stone Wolf has been producing wine since 1998. Owners Linda and Art Lindsay acquired the property in 1996, and began with old vines that the Lindsays help plant in 1985 at the 40-acre estate. In 1998, six additional acres of Pinot Noir were planted. The vineyard is the highest in the Willamette Valley, peaking out at 1,100 feet.
The couple started in 1996 with Mystic Mountain Vineyards, developed the Stone Wolf label in 1997-98 with winemaker Kerry Norton, and released "Rascal" in 2007, which is produced and marketed under The Great Oregon Wine Co., and is now the number one selling Pinot Noir in Oregon. Pinot Noir was also released under the Lindsay Cellars label in early 2000s. Estimated 2011 sales are 35,000 cases (30,000 cases of Rascal) including recyclable keg wines. Stone Wolf wines are in the $10 to $20 a bottle range, with Rascal an even lower priced option.
The winemakers are Linda Lindsay and Matt Cechovic, specializing in Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. The wines are sold through the winery's online store.
