Domaine Comte de Vogüé can trace its history back to 1450 and is the greatest estate in Chambolle Musigny. The domaine owns a staggering 7.25 hectares of the fabled Le Musigny vineyard which constitutes 80% of the whole site. In addition, it has 2.75 hectares of Bonnes-Mares and 1.8 hectares of Premier Cru Chambolle-Musigny.

Under the aegis of estate manager Jean-Luc Pepin, with winemaker François Millet and the aptly named Eric Bourgogne in the vineyards, this domaine currently cannot put a foot wrong; it ranks amongst the very best Burgundy houses. Tastings at de Vogüé have become a perverse highlight of any buying trip - nobody is allowed to taste unless François is present. In his exemplary measured English François will distill the essence of each vintage in a mixture of metaphysical and anthropomorphic metaphors.

The average age of vines in Le Musigny is 40 years old and all is labelled as Vieilles Vignes. This is Red Burgundy at its sublime best - marvellously perfumed, rich, ripe fruit, perfectly balanced and exquisitely harmonious. The best wines will keep for up to 50 years. The village Chambolle Musigny is the most approachable early.

2006 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny

$110-$150. Village-level wine. · Light-bodied, demure red fruit aromas and flavors with a notable acid spine producing an uplifting tartness. Reviewed August 5, 2009 ARTICLE »

2006 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüe 1er Cru Chambolle-Musigny

$194-$250. Sourced from the young vines in the Le Musigny vineyard (10-25 years old). This wine is more reflective of the personality of Chambolle-Musigny terroir than the Village wine. · Moderate garnet color. More fruit extract and more character than the Village wine. Very charming spiced cherry and berry and forest floor aromas that carry over to the flavor profile. The wine has soft but firm tannins with a lively grip of acidity on the refreshing finish. This is an impressive wine that will stay the course for many years to come. Reviewed August 5, 2009 ARTICLE »

2006 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Bonnes-Mares

$295-$450. · Moderately dark garnet color. A thick wine with expressive aromas of dark red stone fruits and violets. Rich and full-bodied on the palate with noticeable fine-grain tannins and a lingering finish that features a return of the aromas offered on the nose. Needs time to resolve and soften the angular and imposing structure Reviewed August 5, 2009 ARTICLE »

2006 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Vielles Vignes

Vignes $380-480. From vines that average years old (26-55 years old). · Moderate garnet color. Red raspberries and cherries dominate the restrained nose. Well-endowed core of red fruits flush with minerality and perfectly complimented by supple tannins and soft acidity. The finish is impressively long and aromatic. Still tight and no where near what it will be in ten to twenty years. Reviewed August 5, 2009 ARTICLE »

2004 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses Premier Cru

13.5% alc.. $478-$616 (current price). Imported by I & B Imports Chicago, IL. (Note - I recently tasted all five Vogüé wines from the 2004 vintage - but that’s for another feature) · Moderately light garnet color in the glass. Gorgeous nose over time offering aromas of sous-bois, spice and cherry. Redder fruited in a mid weight style with impressive length in the mouth and an extended finish. Silky and sexy, with add flavors of iron, baking spices and savory herbs. This beauty is struck through with earth and mineralogy. Drink now through 2030. Score: Exceptional. 2000 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru

14.0% alc.. The Domaine produces about 4,000 cases a year of five wines: Musigny Blanc, Chambolle Musigny, Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru, Chambolle Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru, Bonnes-Mares, and Musigny. The Chambolle Musigny 1er contains grapes from young Musigny vines. · The striking aromatics come at you like a speeding truck and are far and away the most flamboyant in the lineup save the La Tache. Cinnamon spice, ripe dark cherry and some buttery oak aromas lead to a fat and rich stuffing of mature red and black fruits. There is some earthiness as well. The texture is all silk. Seduction 101. 1991 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue Bonnes-Mares

13.5% alc.. This Domaine can trace its roots back 550 years and today the 20th generation of the family is in charge. About 420 cases of Bonnes-Mares are produced each year from the Domaine’s holdings which are in the Chambolle portion of the vineyard. The vines average 29 years in age. Several critics have written that the Vogue wines of the 1990s are excellent and in great vintages are truly magnificent examples of fine Burgundy. · A lovely nose of ripe cherries with floral accents. Shy flavors of sweet red cherries, spice and a hint of citrus. Appears to be fading. A good wine, but disappointing considering the pedigree. Reviewed August 24, 2007 ARTICLE »
