Proprietors Bruce and Cheryl Lawton were exploring the Lot River Valley in France in 2007 and happened upon the prehistoric caves of Pech Merle. This led to their vision for their winery. Pech Merle translates in colloquial French to "under the hill." They acquired a property in Dry Creek Valley that mirrors the climate, topography and terroir of the Lot River Valley. An extraordinary live oak at a height of 77 feet, dwarfs the other oaks in the valley. A winery cave and tasting room is planned for the site.
The winemaker is veteran John Pepe. Multiple varietals are produced including a Mendocino County Pinot Noir.
