Irv Bliss acquired a 400-acre ranch in Mendocino County in 1943. He grew grapes and figs, raised sheep and cattle. In the 1970s, the land was converted to grapes.
The Brutocao family came to the New World and married into the Bliss family of farmers. In 1980, Brutocao Family Vineyards produced their first wine and in 1990 built a winery on the Bliss Ranch to make all wines Estate Produced. Eventually the business outgrew the winery and a new winery was built in 2003 and expanded in 2009. The Bliss Vineyard has 177 acres planted to multiple varietals.
A Mendocino County appellation Pinot Noir is offered along with several other varietals.
