The Garrod family has been involved with agriculture since 1893, growing apricots and prunes. Since 1972, the aging orchards have been replaced with wine grapes. The agricultural tradition continues with winemaker Bill Cooper and vineyard manager Jan Garrod, George Cooper's nephew. Winemaker George Cooper is a veteran with many years making wine in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Napa Valley, Burgundy and Bordeaux.
All estate vineyards are located on 120 acres above the village of Saratoga in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA . Plantings include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Syrah, Viognier, Merlot and Pinot Noir (Finley, 2 acres, planted in 2004; George's, 0.5 acre, planted in 2008). Vineyards are CCOF-certified organic.
The winery's historic tasting room, the Fruit House, is open daily (see website for directions).
