Angel Camp Vineyard

Brian Zalaznick lost his older brother, his brother's wife and their three sons in a tragic airplane crash in 2004. Brian was looking to find something in his life that offered renewal. He was living in Somona at the time completing an internship at a winery. He heard of a property for sale in Philo owned by a family of homesteaders from Oklahoma. The property was in disarray with remnants of a dormant Christmas tree operation. Brian decided that resurrecting the property and planting a vineyard could channel his sadness and loss into a lasting homage.

The Angel Camp property was bought in 2005 and planted to 12 acres (9 clones) of Pinot Noir in 2006. The vineyard is managed by Ardzrooni Vineyard Management.

The winemaker is Jon Keyes, an assistant winemaker at Outpost where he learned from Thomas Brown. He became the winemaker at Poe where he was introduced to Angel Camp Vineyard. He oversaw the 2011, 2012 and 2013 vintages at Angel Camp Vineyards. Beginning in 2014, the winemaker became Phil Baxter when Keyes joined Goldeneye as winemaker.

Grapes are also sold to Dutton-Goldfield and Donum Estate.
