Zayante Vineyard is an organically grown vineyard and boutique winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The vineyard is on a south facing slope between 100 and 1300 feet elevation.
The original vineyard was planted in 1875 on a land grant signed by Ulysses S. Grant. The vines were pulled out during Prohibition. Doc Mount purchased the property in the 1920s and planted an apple orchard. The land changed hands in the 1950s, the apple trees were removed and the ranch raised cattle until 1974. In 1984, Gregory Nolten and Kathleen Starkeyh-Nolten purchased the ranch. They re-established the vineyard and winery and Zayante Vineyard was bonded again in 1988.
The vineyard is open for visits during Santa Cruz Mountain Winegrowers Association Passport weekends. Visits are also available by appointment. Pinot Noir is offered from purchased grapes.
