Lupe Maldonado moved to California nearly 50 years ago from Michoacan, Mexico. He spent many years working in vineyards throughout Napa Valley. In 1971, Lupe was working for Sterling Vineyards when he was offered to opportunity to join in the creation of a new winery in the Spring Mountain District of St. Helena named Newton. He ended up working as vineyard manager for Newton for over thirty years. His son Hugo succeeded him in 1999.
While working at Newton, Lupe bought 10 acres in the cool southern reaches of Napa Valley in Jamieson Canyon and developed his own vineyard. His son Hugo graduated with a degree in viticulture and enology from University of California at Davis and the two families are partners in the project, farming the vineyard together, overseeing the winemaking, and operating a small vineyard management company.
Several varietals are offered including a Pinot Noir from the estate Los Olivos Vineyard in Napa Valley and Parr Vineyard in Sonoma County.
