Bell Hill Vineyard is located in the Weka Pass, North Canterbury. Bell Hill is named for its bell-like shape on its southern side, first surveyed in 1917 by Charles Trounce who established a lime quarry on the site that operated until the late 1930s. The unique, lime-rich soil forms the distinct character of Bell Hill's Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Established by Marcel Giesen and Sherwyn Veldhuizen in 1997, Bell Hill is the first outside of Martinborough and Central Otago to receive a 5 Star rating from the Fourth Great New Zealand Pinot Noir Classification 2011. Both owners are hands-on winegrowers.
The Pinot Noirvines are densely planted to Dijon clones with a tiny amount of Pommard 5..

Canterbury. 5.6-acre vineyard planted on limestone derived soils on a north
facing hillside. 9,090-11,363 vines per hectare.

Moderately dark reddish-purple
color in the glass. Aromas of dark red cherries and berries, Asian 5-spice,
sandalwood and tobacco-laced oak. Medium bodied core of tasty dark red, oaklaced,
cherry and berry fruit lifted by bright acidity, finishing with good richness
and a refreshing tang. Mineral-driven acidity is the best feature of this wine.
