El Rey

The El Rey Vineyard was planted on the far western edge of Santa Barbara County on a hill overlooking the La Purisima Mission Lands. Wes Hagen from Clos Pepe did the original land assessment over 20 years ago and Ryan Carr of Carr Vineyards planted the vineyard to clones 115 and "828."

The vineyard is farther west than the Sta. Rita Hills Ava. Organic oil is used for mold control and all pruning, weeding and leaf removal is done by the owners. The 2006-2008 wines were produced from sourced fruit.

The winemaker is Tim Grubb who apprenticed at Tensley Winery in Buellton since 2004 where El Rey wines are made.

A single Pinot Noir from El Rey Vineyard is produced. The wine is hand crafted with light use of French Oak (15%-25% new).
