After 20 years as a sommelier, Johnnes developed his own portfolio of wines, Daniel Johnnes Selections. His Burgundy offerings include Domaine de L'Arlot, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Domaine des Comtes Lafon, Domaine Alain Gras and Petit Chapeau. Johnnes is well known for the annual La Paulee Burgundy celebration in New York City and San Francisco and is the Wine Director for Daniel Boulud's Dinex Group.
His initial foray into winemaking came during the 2007 vintage with a Pinot Noir from Seven Springs Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills district of the Willamette Valley. He had the support of Dominique Lafon, Isabel Meunier and Eric Hamacher. In 2009, he again produced a wine from Gevrey-Champbertain with the guidance of Fred Mugnier.
The wines are sold through a mailing list.
