2012 Main Ridge Estate Half Acre Mornington Peninsula Australia Pinot Noir
13.5% alc.. A pioneering wine estate established in 1975 and granted the first commercial winery license on the Mornington Peninsula in 1978. The vineyard was developed completely by hand, meaning owners Nat and Rosalie White dug every post and vine hole. The vineyard is primarily Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Two Pinot Noir wines, “The Acre” and “Half Acre” are produced. The winemaker is Nat White. · Moderately light garnet color in the glass. Pleasant aromas of fresh cherry coulis leading to savory mid weight flavors of fresh cherries. The tight knit tannins provide good structure, and the mouthfeel is pleasingly dry and fine grained. The wine evolves nicely over time in the glass and was even better the following day from a previously opened and re-closed bottle. Score: 90. Reviewed September 14, 2014 ARTICLE »
2004 Main Ridge Estate Mornington Peninsula Victoria Australia Pinot Noir
Main Ridge Estate was the first commercial winery on the Mornington Peninsula in 1975. Owner Nat White (photo below) was inspired by a visit to Burgundy in 1966. The 7.5 acre vineyard is planted on deep red balsatic soils and dry farmed. Intense human intervention in the vineyard enables minimal intervention in the winery where natural yeast and bacteria are utilized to help define the site characteristics. · A Pinot Noir of great elegance and grace with plenty of fruit interest.
