Maison L'Envoyé translates to "The House of the Messenger" in English. The winery is led by former Evening Land founder, Mark Tarlov, and brings together a collection of Burgundian winemakers, Oregon winemakers and Napa Valley based wine importer Old Bridge Cellars.
The Willamette Valley wines are from multiple AVAs including Yamhill-Carlton, Ribbon Ridge and Eola-Amity Hills. For 2012, two Oregon Pinot Noirs are offered: Two Messenger and Straight Shooter from multiple vineyard sites and The Attache from volcanic and sedimentary soils. Another label, Forty-Six Diamonds Willamette Valley Pinot Noir appeared ($20).
The winemaker is Felipe Ramirez and consulting winemaker is Louis-Michel Liger-Belair of Burgundy.
2012 Maison L’Envoyé Two Messengers Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
13.6% alc., $36. Name translates as “House of the Envoy.” 100% de-stemmed, fermented whole berry, aged in 20% new French oak. · Moderately light reddish purple color in the glass. The juicy core of fresh black cherry, plum and cola flavors is overshadowed by a prominent oak sheen most evident on the nose. 2012 Maison L’Envoyé The Attaché Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
13.0% alc., $48. A barrel selection of grapes grown in volcanic and sedimentary soils. Aged in 40% new French oak barrels. · Shy aromas of black cherry, forest floor and seasoned oak. Welcoming fullness on the palate, with a bright, sappy cherry core complimented by a hint of cola and sweet oak. Juicy, with managed tannins and a big finish filled with black cherry goodness.
