Fred and Carol Schrader launched this new label with wines from the 2011 and 2012 vintage. The Boars' View Vineyard is adjacent to Marcassin Vineyard (Marcassin is French for young wild boar) in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA of the Sonoma Coast.
The Boar's View Vineyard is 9 acres of Pinot Noir and 1 acre of Chardonnay planted in 2009. It is situated above the fog line. Pinot Noir is planted in predominantly Goldridge loam and Chardonnay in a section of coastal clay. Vines are a blend of California heritage selections including Calera, Mt. Eden and Swan Pinot Noir and Wente Chardonnay.
The debut 2012 wines are very expensive (triple digits). They are sold through a mailing list.
The Schraders also own Aston Estate Vineyard which is further north and close to Annapolis.
Thomas Brown is the winemaker for all of Schrader's wines. The Pinot Noir is aged 10 months and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Ulises Valdez initially managed both of Schrader's coastal vineyards, with Dan Ricciato the most recent vineyard manager.
