A small project focusing on sparkling apple cider and ultra premium Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and sparkling wine from the Central Coast of California. Winemaker Michael Brughelli, a Cal Poly grad, produces Pinot Noir and Chardonnay at the Bien Nacido Winery and partner Mikey Giugni makes a small amount of sparkling cider at Jack Creek Cellars in Paso Robles.
The pair met while attending college at Cal Poly. While Mikey was visiting Tasmania, he stumbled upon a small red brick church that was steps from the sand. The run-down church had a stained glass window that he thought read "Scar of the Sea," when it actually said, "Star of the Sea." When Mikey returned, they decided to name their winery, Scar of the Sea, a natural fit as they both Mikey and Michael had been lifeguards and surfers.
Total case production is 600 cases. The wines have attracted praise from the wine press. Both wines and hard ciders are sold on the website
