Neighborhood Vineyards

San Francisco's urban vineyard project planted in 2013. Elly Harshorn, founder and farmhand, was living in France in 2010 and working at small vineyards and creameries when she stumbled upon Paris' vineyard, Clos Montmartre. She was so taken by the concept that when she returned to California she began plotting a similar project for San Francisco. She planted America's first urban vineyard - a 1/2-acre plot of Pinot Noir at 700 Alemany Boulevard in Bernal Heights. There are 349 vines of clone "828," planted on 110r rootstock. The first harvest will be 2016.

She has been working with a team of viticulturists, winemakers, and friends to put together small-lot wines to get the project in the public eye. Vine sponsors are available for $200. They can name their vine and adorn it with a decorative tag, and through the growing season are provided photos and updates on the health of the sponsored vine. Sponsors will receive a bottle of the 2016 inaugural release and an invitation to a greenhouse dinner at Alemany Farms.
