Desparada Winery & Vineyard

A Central Coast garagiste whose wines "are guided more by spirit than style." Each wine stands for a particular vision, and in each vintage, new knowledge, varieties, and vineyards bring the vision into focus. The inaugural vintage was 2009.

Owner and winemaker Vailia Esh has almost spent her entire life working in the wine business as server, broker, compliance expert and importer. She decided to become a winemaker when she arrived in Paso Robles in 2007. The name, Desparada, captures the owner's essence as a traveler and stranger in a strange land.

Multiple varietals are offered including a Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir from Solomon Hills Vineyard, "Suitor."

The small-lot wines (1,500 cases annually) are sold through a mailing list. Tasting is available by appointment at the Herman Story Wines tasting room in Paso Robles.
