Owned by winemaker Brent Melville and Brent's friend and business partner, Mead Whippo, this boutique winery produces about 750 cases annually of wine barreled in neutral oak or kept in stainless steel tanks. Five estate vineyard wines are offered including Pinot Noir, Syrah and Viognier, all derived from grapes grown in Cat Canyon's Verna's Vineyard in Santa Barbara County.
Brent Melville has a long history in the wine industry, having managed his family's vineyards for over 25 years. The family acquired 40 acres in Lompoc in 1996, bought an adjacent 55-acre parcel the following year, and established Melville Vineyards and Winery. Brent managed the vineyard operations for Melville Vineyards through 2013, when he ventured out on his own using grapes farmed from the 100-acre VErna's Vineyard located in Los Alamos' Cat Canyon and launched Lucky Dogg Winery.
Grapes from Verna's Vineyard are also sold to Tensley Wines, Casa Dumetz Wines, Consilience Wines and Frequency Wines.
A tasting room opened in Solvang in 2014.
