Jack LaRue moved from California in 2000 and established a vineyard in Rickreall. The vineyard was named after Horatio Nelson Viscount Holmes, who left Virginia 170 years ago with his family and established a homestead and working farm on the property.
Jack's first vines were planted in 2006. The site is on the grounds of Left Coast Cellars. Fruit is sold to about 15 clients and each year about 1,000 cases is made under the Holmes Gap label by winemaker Drew Voit. The brand is a tribute to the frontier spirit. An estate Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris are offered.
