Doerner Vineyards

Five generations have lived on the Doerner Vineyards property. Adam Doerner first planted grapes in 1889 on this Oregon Century Farm located in the Melrose area of the Umpqua Valley. By 1923, Adam's son Adolph, bonded the winery as Oregon winery No. 7. A winemaking facility was built in 1935 and he produced Melrose Wine or "Doerner's Dew," a fortified blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc. Due to failing health, Adolph closed the winery by 1953, though he continued to sell stored inventory until 1964.

Richard Sommer bought Doerner's winemaking equipment for use at HillCrest located nearby. The Doerner family continued to farm the vineyards and sold the fruit to area winemakers.

Fifth generation farmer Christina Doerner, with her husband, continue the family tradition. By 2018, there were 22 acres with plans to plant more acreage.The vineyards are planted to Pinot Noir, Malbec, Tempranillo, Zinfandel, Riesling and Chardonnay.
